Climax Blues Band – Couldn’t Get It Right

Disco, baby! Boy, I do hope there’s not a new music genre that develops in the next year as a sort of reactionary backlash. Anyway, “A Fifth Of Beethoven” is great and I dare you to listen and sit still for the entirety of the song, “Afternoon Delight” is fun and I dare you not sing along during the chorus and “Play That Funky Music” is fantastic and I dare you to not get out your air guitar whilst enjoying. Climax Blues Band wasn’t a name I recognised but I’ve definitely hear “Couldn’t Get It Right” somewhere in my life and it doesn’t hurt that it’s a smooth jam. Hank Mizell is a different story though. He record “Jungle Rock” in ’58 but it didn’t take off until it appeared on bootlegs at the start of the 70’s. It was re-issued this year and made it as high as number 3 on the charts. Mizell by this time had become a preacher and had no idea this was all going on.
